Pool Deck Paver Installation
Serving Land O' Lakes, Tampa & all of Tampa Bay since 2003
Pool decks present unique challenges that not every paver contractor understands. The surface needs to be slip-resistant when wet, cool enough to walk on barefoot in July, resistant to pool chemicals, and graded so water flows away from the pool — not into it. At Brazilian Brick Pavers, we've been solving these exact challenges for Tampa Bay pool owners since 2003.
We start every pool deck project with a careful evaluation of your pool's layout, the existing surface (whether it's bare ground, old concrete, or deteriorating pavers), and your drainage situation. In Florida, pool decks take a beating from afternoon thunderstorms, chlorinated splash-out, and relentless UV — so material selection matters enormously. We steer pool deck clients toward tumbled travertine, textured concrete pavers, or specific porcelain tiles that naturally stay cooler underfoot and provide excellent wet-grip. Light colors reflect more heat, which is why you'll rarely see us install dark pavers around a pool.
Coping — the cap that edges the pool itself — is integrated seamlessly into our paver work. We match or contrast coping material with the deck pavers to create a cohesive, finished look. Proper slope is critical: we grade the deck so rain and splash water flows away from the pool edge and toward designated drainage points, preventing puddles that create slipping hazards.
Our team has completed pool deck projects of every size across Land O' Lakes, Tampa, Wesley Chapel, and beyond — from intimate plunge pools to resort-style backyards with swim-up bars and outdoor kitchens.
What We Offer
Our Pool Deck Pavers Process
Pool Area Evaluation
We assess your pool layout, existing surface, drainage patterns, and identify any leveling issues.
Material Selection for Safety
We guide you toward non-slip, heat-reflective pavers rated for pool environments — travertine, textured concrete, or porcelain.
Coping Integration
Pool edge coping is matched or contrasted with deck pavers for a seamless transition.
Drainage Grading
The deck is sloped to move water away from the pool edge toward drainage points.
Installation & Sealing
Pavers are set with pool-safe polymeric sand. We recommend an initial sealant coat for maximum chemical resistance.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the best pavers for a Florida pool deck?
Tumbled travertine and textured concrete pavers are top choices. Both provide natural slip resistance when wet, stay relatively cool in direct sun, and hold up to chlorine and salt exposure. For a modern look, specific porcelain tiles rated for exterior wet use also work beautifully.
Will pool deck pavers get too hot to walk on?
We specifically select light-colored, heat-reflective materials for pool decks. Travertine naturally stays cooler than most alternatives. Proper color selection makes a huge difference — we'll show you samples and explain the thermal properties of each option.
Can you install pavers over my existing pool deck concrete?
Often yes, provided the existing concrete is structurally sound and properly sloped. Overlaying saves excavation time and cost. We evaluate this during your free on-site consultation.
How do you handle drainage around the pool?
We grade the entire deck surface to slope gently away from the pool edge at roughly 1/4 inch per foot. This prevents water from flowing back into the pool and eliminates standing water that creates slipping hazards.
Do pool deck pavers need special sealing?
We recommend a quality penetrating sealer for pool decks to protect against chlorine staining, efflorescence, and UV fading. We offer this as part of our sealing services and recommend reapplication every 2-3 years.
